I don't think we recognize it, but the cars our parents have (and allow us to wrench on a little) greatly affect our car-buying choices when we grow older. So what's your favorite car that your parents owned, or maybe still own?
My entry: My mom's 1999 SAAB 9-3 SE. With a stick, of course.
A Disclaimer: not our actual car, but close. Only differences: the paint was dark blue and we had different wheels, but close enough.

My dad had a 1992 Saab 900 Convertible like the one below (his wasnt a turbo). First car I ever rode in. I loved it. Made me love convertibles.

I may or may not have a small crush on all SAABs. As I look into my first car, hopefully a SAAB is in the cards for me! That's glorious. I wish my parents were so lucky. Truly a stunning car. Unfortunately our SAAB met it's demise in a t-bone in '08, so I never got the chance to drive it!

After I turned 10 (I'm 30 now) my parents changed cars only once, and temporarily added a second car once. Since my birth they've had a late 70s Citroën Dyane, 1981 Lada (VAZ 2101), 1983 Lada (VAZ 2105), 1983 Citroën Visa, 1991 VW Golf, 1991 Citroën BX, 2001 Suzuki Alto. The BX was my favorite.

The car I remember the most was my mom's Camry wagon like the one below except navy blue. V6 and rear facing seats for the win.

Rear-facing seats are the absolute bomb. Nothing is more fun to ride in! Looks like a fun one. Did you ever get to take the wheel?

Where do you hail from? I can't quite remember if those cars were available in the US. Looks like a fun car. Did it baby?

Other than the Golf none were available in the US. I live in the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, it was the middle car in a 3 car wreck and the frame was damaged before I got the chance to drive it.

2005 Lincoln LSV8. My mom did the smokiest burnout I have ever seen the last day of the lease.

After a little deliberation, I've decided on the 1990 Pontiac Turbo Grand Prix that we had when I was about 6 or so. The TGP was used to introduce the 3.1L version of the GM V6 and used the highest quality pieces that came off the line for engine assembly. It was modified by ASC and McLaren (even painted by them by hand, having a higher quality finish than the other Grand Prixs). 205hp and 215tq (if memory serves me right), 12-way(!) power front seats, bucket rear seats, on board computer (that was fun as heck when I was that age), head-up display, everything. Only about 2000 were built over their two years. Ours was red like this picture, but we had the spoiler, too.

They didn't have anything cool IMO after I was 10 but before dad drove a truck like this
And before that, so I don't really remember it, moms had a red Iroc Camaro

My dad's lit itself on fire in our driveway and burnt down in '04.. never got to drive it. Im still young like you, im 15.. I almost bought an 05 Saab 95 Sedan that was great for a first car.. 85,000 miles, one owner, and $4500, but my dad shot it down. There will be a Saab in my future for sure.

My favorite that I remember is my dad's old Audi A6
That's not the actual one, but it was the same color and spec. He got it when I was probably 5 or 6, and he gave me some promotional book that came with it. It had tons of pictures of famous Audis of the past, and I probably still have it lying around somewhere. In retrospect, that's probably one of the reasons why I'm such a massive car nerd today, because I grew up reading Audi adverts!

I was taken home from the hospital in an Alfasud, which is pretty cool, but we didn't have it long enough for me to remember it.
After that it's either the Thema turbo, Maserati 425 and 228 or Porsche 914/6.
I seem to remember liking the Porsche especially.

The one I have now. My dad also had a pretty bitchin' little 912. And my mom had an '87 Cadillac Deville that was super badass in a 'horrible '80s land yacht with white paint and a red interior' kind of way.

This!
A Honda Accord 88 Exi Coupe that my father had. I loved the damn thing, I even said to my father that I wanted it as my first car. He gave it to his brother who scrapped it a few months after and I never forgave that....My father ended up with my sister's 1997 Sunfire....

Don't forget the couches in the Cadillac!

Mmmmmm red leather couches. I used to sit in the back seat because my mom didn't make me wear a seatbelt if I was in the back. Yay '80s!

While I have a soft spot for all cars, my major soft spots are for SAABs and Audis. I know that feeling, I used to read the manuals for rental cars. Additionally, our Honda Odyssey came with a DVD explaining how everything worked, and Iwatched that all the time. I know that feel.

That's a beautiful Honda. There's something to be said for the Accords of that era, my grandparents have a pristine '92 Accord (sedan, but whatever) with a five speed stick, and I have got to see if I can take it off their hands!

That's fantastic! My parents would never have done a burnout in any of their cars, but then again we don't lease cars. Do you have any pictures of the burnout?

Sooo many. My Dad's always made great decisions for our family cars. Sadly I was too young to drive most of them, but there has been a VW Corrado VR6, Saab 9000 turbo, Volvo 850 turbo, mk4 gti vr6, and mazdaspeed mx-5. I currently own the gti and will keep it for as long as I can.

That's a pretty stellar list. The 9000 piques my interest the most, as is preobablt visible above.

We still have the "black car" as we called it when I was a kid. http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/20… . That should do it...but it's the one that got away that I lust after today...a 1985 gray market black/black M5.

Hello there! I don't like to post my age where people may see, because it makes some mad. I'm in CT and I am 14. I get a permit at 16 and license at 16.5. At 17 I can drive any family and it is not until 17.5 that I can drive friends.
